NASA SpaceApps: Cardboard in Space

What does cardboard have to do with space?

In the years the ABC newspaper published the following advertisement:

"IF YOU FOLD THIS PAPER 206 TIMES, IT WILL BE THICKER THAN THE UNIVERSE."

ABC newsprint has a thickness of 0.05mm.

If we managed to fold the page in half 46 times, we would reach a kilometer away.
If we folded it 60 times, it would take us into space.
On the 84th fold we would reach the Moon.
And on the 104th fold we would reach the Sun.
If we continue to increase exponentially, by folding the sheet 206th time we would be leaving the known universe.

Everything is connected...

This past October 7-8, 2023, Madrid was transformed into the epicenter of technological innovation and space exploration by hosting the NASA International Space Apps Challenge Spain.

Specifically, the San Blas Digital Competition School was the meeting point for more than 100 science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics enthusiasts, who came together to tackle 30 real-world challenges posed by NASA scientists and engineers.

These enthusiastic participants not only shared their love of STEM disciplines, but also put their skills to the test in an intense hackathon. During the event, the teams immersed themselves in the fascinating world of problem solving, working tirelessly to develop applications and solutions that could have a real impact on space exploration and life on Earth.

Madrid stood out by bringing together more than 100 creative minds at the San Blas Digital Competition School where they not only sought solutions to the challenges posed by NASA, but also contributed significantly to the creation of a collaborative and stimulating environment.

We designed photocalls with SwedBoard Fibre for Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Sevilla, Malaga and León.
